Psychological Testing

What is Psychological Testing?

Psychoeducational assessments are recommended for students who are struggling in school with behavioral and academic challenges. A particular battery of assessments can diagnose and identify learning disabilities, ADHD, intellectual delays, and other psychological conditions. These assessments can identify a need for specific interventions, accommodations or additional supports in order to achieve academic success at school, college, or university.

Psychoeducational assessments analyze a child’s reasoning and problem-solving skills, attention span, working memory, language and spatial abilities, memory, visual-motor integration and a broad range of executive functions, including planning, organization, and impulse control. A psychoeducational assessment will also assess your child’s performance in individual academic subjects, such as reading, writing, and mathematics.

Gifted Assessment

Gifted testing is conducted to determine if a child meets the MS State Department of Education criteria for participation in a school academic gifted program. Parents or guardians will meet with one of our MS State licensed examiners to provide the relevantinformation necessary to determine the appropriate test selection. Subsequently, the child or adolescent will be administered the required psychological measurements, which may take anywhere from 90 – 180 minutes. Parents or guardians are not allowed in the testing session. Results will not be provided immediately after the testing session. We will generate a report detailing the results of the evaluation, the parent or guardian will then meet with the examiner to discuss the results and any other relevant findings.

Please Note: Private gifted testing does not guarantee or increase the likelihood of a child to qualify for gifted placement. The same intelligence test cannot typically be repeated within 12-month period. If your child is being re-tested, please advise our office which instruments were previously administered. Failure to do so may lead to your child’s school rejecting the results of additional testing.
